How many of us stocked up on everything from stocking fillers to huge indulgent gifts for ourselves or others on Black Friday or Cyber Monday? These two days are a phenomenon imported from the States in recent years, days that focus on getting rather than giving.
Giving Tuesday is a day set aside as an antidote to the spending frenzy that takes place in the two previous working days. It’s a chance to give something back to the community in the approach to Christmas and a way of putting good causes firmly at the front of all our minds at this indulgent time of year.
The movement was thought up, again in America, back in 2012. Since then, the idea has gone global, with charities and good causes all over the world asking their supporters to give something back. The UK campaign is stepping up a gear in 2016, look out for their TV advert running on some sky channels. Also, look out for the Royal Mail #GivingTuesday post mark being used this week.
Here at Investors in Community, it is our first live Giving Tuesday and we are really excited to see the buzz around the event. Our question to you is…
What will you be doing to recognise Giving Tuesday?
If the answer is making a donation, we would encourage you to take a look at some of the incredible projects registered on Investors in Community, just waiting for your support.
For example, The Cellar Trust near Bradford. This charity are helping people who have faced mental health challenges to get back into the work place. They need to raise £50,000 but they also need your time and skills.
You could choose to support The AHOY Centre in London. They are looking to raise funds to build a new Cutter Rowing Boat. This will have a direct impact on helping Disabled people to gain confidence and gain nationally recognised qualifications.
Please visit our Marketplace to search all our registered projects.
Donations through Investors in Community are totally free with no fees applied to giving. We even claim Gift Aid for eligible causes so please, dig deep and come together to make a difference this Giving Tuesday.
